Frequently Asked Questions

How is the AP Calc BC exam scored?
The AP Calculus BC exam has 45 multiple-choice questions (50% of score) and 6 free-response questions (50% of score). The composite score combines both sections and is converted to a 1-5 AP score. BC also receives an AB subscore based on the AB topics in the exam.
What is the difference between AP Calc AB and BC?
AP Calculus BC covers all of AB content plus additional topics: parametric and polar functions, vector-valued functions, Euler's method, logistic growth, and series (including Taylor and Maclaurin series). BC students also receive an AB subscore, which can be used for college credit separately.
What score do I need for college credit?
Most colleges require a 4 or 5 on AP Calc BC for credit. Some schools accept a 3. BC typically qualifies for more credits than AB because it covers two semesters of calculus. The AB subscore (BC exam covers AB topics 60% and BC-only topics 40%) can also be used.
