US Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment
The Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) is designed to measure the physical fitness and readiness of Airmen. The test consists of three components: muscular strength (push-ups), muscular endurance (sit-ups), and cardiovascular fitness (1.5-mile run). Each component is scored from 0 to 60 points, with the maximum composite score being 180.

Rating System
- Excellent: 90.0+ (Test every 2 years)
- Good: 75.0 - 89.9 (Test annually)
- Satisfactory: 65.0 - 74.9 (Test annually, marginal pass)
- Marginal: 55.0 - 64.9 (Requires improvement plan)
- Unsatisfactory: Below 55.0 (Fails, enters FIP)
Fitness Improvement Program
Airmen who fail the PFA are enrolled in the Fitness Improvement Program (FIP) and must retest within 90 days. Multiple consecutive failures can result in administrative actions including loss of PCS (permanent change of station) eligibility, promotion ineligibility, and potential separation from the Air Force.
